About Us Lectors and Commentators
- Lectors proclaim the Word of God to the parish assembly during the Liturgy of the Mass. Commentators facilitate the celebration of the Liturgy. Both are a part of the same Ministry and our members can perform either function.
- Lectors are responsible for the 1st and 2nd readings from Scripture and on occasion, the responsorial psalm prior to the Gospel. Commentators provide the opening introduction to the Mass, lead the Prayer of the Faithful prior to the Offertory and read the weekly announcements at the end of Mass before the dismissal. In addition to being spiritually prepared, a Workbook for Lectors is use to prepare for each weeks readings. Many of the Commentators and Lectors are also a part of SJN Bible Study Groups.
