Special Collection for Humanitarian Aid in the Middle East

Our Church mourns the terrible suffering of Christians and other innocent victims of violence in Iraq, Syria and Gaza who are struggling to survive, protect their children and live with dignity in dire conditions.  Given the extraordinary nature of this crisis, we are joining parishes throughout the US to hold a special collection on the weekend of September 13-14 to provide humanitarian relief and pastoral support for our affected brothers and sisters in the Middle East.

The funds raised through this special collection will be used by Catholic Relief Services and other Catholic agencies working in partnership with the local Church to meet the most urgent humanitarian needs facing the people in Iraq, Gaza, Syria and surrounding countries where refugees have fled.  These organizations have well-established partnerships with the Catholic Church in the region, allowing them to respond quickly and efficiently to victims in some of the hardest to reach areas.  Collection funds will also be used to support Church programs to aid persecuted Christians and to respond to rebuilding needs of Catholic parishes in the impacted areas.

Please give as generously as you are able!  Thank you.

More information can be found at: www.usccb.org/about/national-collections/index.cfm

New Program! Couples for Christ

Couples for Christ
(CFC) is a Catholic movement intended for the renewal and strengthening of Christian family life. CFC Christian Life Program helps couples grow and fulfill their primary vocation of raising families grounded in Christian values, in the service and love of God. In this crazy world, what family doesn’t need that!

We will be starting up this 10 week interactive program with an Orientation Meeting on Friday, September 5th, 2014 at 7:30p.m. in Classroom 5 by the Circle of Christ Courtyard. Contact Rod and Maria Villanueva at rodmaria1@gmail.com for more information.

SYMBOLON - Neighborhood Spirituality Campaign

There’s a saying that all Catholics have a “coming home story” – recalling a time in our lives when the rigors of the world caused our spiritual life to stall out in a kind of “arrested development”, which sometimes lasts for years!  It often takes a time of great suffering or an experience of great love to move us to change.

Many of us go to a gym to get our bodies back into shape. We purchase memberships and we add workout routines to our schedules because we know that we need that exercise to keep our muscles growing. Spiritual fitness, like physical fitness, requires some form of ongoing routine to renew our faith and keep growing.

We have just the gift for you to keep building your spiritual muscles.  It’s a membership that’s open 24/7 on your home computer or mobile device.  Really!  St. John Neumann Parish has purchased a membership for every one of our registered households to help us pump up our relationships with The Lord!
  • Symbolon is a beautiful, high definition video series of the Word of God and the Catholic Faith.  Available 24/7 in your home on your own PC, you can select from many 10-20 minute topics about living your life with Jesus in today's world and building up your relationship with Christ!
  • You get a video for every Sunday of the year with the scriptures discussed and insights shared. View them to prepare for the next Sunday Mass or to review past readings.
  • Use Symbolon for your own private work out, and to help build up family and friends!
  • Also available in a downloadable app that can be used on your mobile device. Here is the link for the app: http://www.symbolonrcia.org/otw
To access the Symbolon package on your home computer, follow these steps:
  1. Go to the website: www.symbolonrcia.org
  2. Enter username: stjohnneumann and password: irvine

As you continue to grow, SJN has many resources to help you along your path. Contact John Gremer at jgremer@sjnirvine.org or John Erdag at john.erdag@sjnirvine.org for more information.
